Leroy “Chico” Thomas will enter the Prep Hall of Fame

The moment Leroy “Chico” Thomas enrolled at Mission High School, the school’s athletic program entered a new era. In the three years as the team’s top lineman he helped bring Mission its first Academic Athletic Association (AAA) football title in nearly two decades. He was named All-AAA and Lineman of the Year. Thomas also played in the North South Shrine and 20/30 East West Bay All Star games. His track and field accomplishments had similar results as he took 1st Place in the high jump with a record leap of
6’3 ˝”. Even though he only played two half-seasons in basketball (1954-1955), Thomas won the All-AAA Honorable Mention award in 1955.
Following his graduation he attended City College of San Francisco where he was All-Conference in football and in the high jump. Thomas is in the real estate/development business. He and his wife Sue live in Oakland and are the parents of three daughters and
two sons.
